It's weird seeing Paul now knowing that David is no longer here. I look at Paul in these interviews with him today and feel sad knowing he's now the remaining half of Starsky and Hutch. He's now solo and we will never see them together ever again. Both David and Paul are such a huge part of my childhood with S&H, so there is such a feeling of sentimental meaning there.

He is correct. Chaplin was a genius. Chaplin wrote the script, directed, produced, and even wrote the music to his films. Of course acted as well.

I wish Randal Kleiser knew he's not the only one who thinks that way about the "Grease is the Word" opening song. It's always felt so off for me. The rest of the movie is so firmly in the 50s vibe, then you've got this EXTREMELY 70s sounding song. And the lyrics don't match the vibe of the film at all. Even as a kid, before I could put my finger on it (and before I knew any of the reasons) that song just seemed ill-fitting for me. Now as an adult who knows the story behind the Bee-Gees doing it, I understand why. As a standalone song, it's good and it's really catchy. But no Randal you are not alone in disliking this song for the movie. I'd love to hear the original "Grease" demo that the animation was set to.

I just watched this on Apple and wanted to say, Bravo! An incredible story so sensitively told. As a lover of musicals, I hope to see either Sunset Boulevard or Swanson on Sunset onstage in my lifetime. Question- are you adapting this story into a screenplay? I know there are severals layers of meta to negotiate but the love triangle, the echoes of of the story come to life and the themes of regret, memory and missed opportunity are timeless. Can't wait to see what you do next.

This was good! Her granddaughter is a carbon copy, I swear. She even speaks the same way, same voice. Swanson really had something, in movies and as a person. Her interviews are really good in that she projects her own character in a way that creates interest in herself that most actors never do. She seems so interesting.

Great video! I met Curtis in 1985 and he impressed me as a fascinating character with lots of interesting tales to tell. One only had to step into his Hollywood Hills home to recognize that he was not the typical L.A. gay man. On my first visit, I told him his home reminded me of a haunted house, which seemed to put a smile on his face. The stuffed black raven perched in the dimly lit living room stands out in my memory. He was kind enough to invite me to a couple dinner parties at his home, which always included a fascinating collection of creatives -- I'm an artist/photographer/videographer, which is no doubt what got me those invitations. It was very cool to see the footage of teenage Curtis. I had no idea he was so cute in his youth!

I saw "Commitment to Life" today and remembered how terrible that time was, but more that that my daughter, age 19 then, changed my understanding of what it really was to be Christian. She was on a Seattle bus when a very ill man tried to get off at an aides clinic and fell; she got off the bus and help him into the clinic and made sure he was attended to. Later that day she phoned to share what had happened. It was 1988 and I immediately became concerned and questioned her judgement and insisted she take every precaution I could come up with, until I finally asked her why she would do such a risky thing. She hesitated and then she replied "because that's what you taught us." Then she said "Why did we spend so much time in church if you didn't believe?" Life lessons come in all forms; I did not become an aides activist I lived in a very small town, but I knew aides as another plague and not punishment. I started to use discernment in what version of the love of God I adopted and it was never again punishment or exclusion and I prayed for a cure to that plague and any others that might come. The volume of deaths is still overwhelming and the fact that the government was so willing to let so many die before taking action is still horrendous and makes me know we must guard against the of governance of exclusion and punishment.

Amazing how no one cared about those inflicted with HIV. We even had a president that wouldn't even utter the word AIDS. When Rock Hudson became the unwilling face of AIDS, he went to his close long time friends, Nancy and Ronald Reagan for help. They wouldn't return his call. They acted as if they never knew him ! The phony, lying, hippocritical EVANGELICAL MINISTER JERRY FALWELL, who was close friends with President Reagan, told him, "DON'T DO ANYTHING! THESE PEOPLE DESERVE WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THEM!" SOME stars like Elton John and Joan Rivers, started to draw attention to the cause. It took a star of such magnitude, like ELIZABETH TAYLOR to literally got to WASHINGTON and then ask REAGAN TO DO SOMETHING ! "DO IT FOR ME!" she said. SHE FORMED THE ELIZABETH TAYLOR AIDS FOUNDATION and never took a penny for her efforts and NEVER LOOKED BACK. HER love for Rock Hudson was her driving force and unfortunately couldn't even save him. When Hollywood moguls like Geffen stepped up, amazing things started to happen. It seems REPUBLICANS and EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS would rather see you dead and gone rather than to try and be a CHRISTIAN the way JESUS TEACHES.
